Good Luck!.Why Teenagers have a particular need for these Nutrients?
well actually everyone has a need for those things....especially carbohydrates because the brain can only obtain nutrients from carbohydrates.

For teenagers however the body is developing including the brain so to incourage healthy and normal development of the body (with proteins) and the brain (with carbohydrates) it is important to have those in your body.

Teenagers need lots of calories to support rapid growth. Girls need approximately 2200 calories, while boys need 2500-2900 calories.

Protein is also necessary for physical growth, and should account for 15-20% of total calories. However, protein deficiency is quite rare in the United States, so protein consumption need not be overemphasized unless the teen is following a vegetarian or vegan diet. (although I was vegan as a teen for 6 years and am still vegetarian and have been for 10 years and i turned out healthy)

Adolescence is a period of rapid physical, emotional, intellectual, and social maturation. To support this growth, teenagers need extra calories, calcium, and iron, and sufficient protein.

Iron helps your blood carry oxygen to all your muscles. It helps your brain function and helps your immune system fight disease. Menstruation increases a girl's need for iron. Choosing iron-rich food sources can help keep your body working optimally.

Your body will actually absorb more calcium from the foods you eat during puberty. The increased need for skeletal growth signals your body to ';grab'; all the calcium it can. The problem is most adolescents simply are not eating enough calcium-rich foods to meet their needs. If you do not meet your calcium needs during this critical time when your bones are growing, you may end up with weaker bones that are more prone to fractures. Why Teenagers have a particular need for these Nutrients?
Protein gives the body the materials to build up,maintain and repair the muscles and organs and maintains a proper balance of fluids in the body. It also assists in the production of haemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen around your body. Protein also creates anti-bodies,cells that fight off infection and disease.

Carbohydrates supply energy to the body.
From personal experience: (i'm a fit teenage guy). i'm not bulking w/ muscle but im just tone. i've thought about taking protein supplements before because some of my really buff friends take them after working out. then i figured that ill just naturally stay the way i am.

as for carbs: i remember being on the wrestling team for my school a year back, and the hardest part of the season were the day-long tournaments. i wished my body had more energy. sometimes active teenagers just want their body get stronger and fitter, as they see athletes on tv.

i think the whole psychology behind this though, is that they see people seen take these nutrients (such as i have seen) and they believe that u can just pile these supplements into your body and itll work better. at least, thats the thinking coming from a teenager who has thought about the same pills
It makes them feel good, its nice to have energy, isn't it?
