Why are teenagers unconfident about their looks?

Mostly, all teenagers consider themselves very ugly. They are so sad that they want surgery and products. I am not going to lie, i am one of them but why do we think like this? When i was 14, i didn't even say anything like ';Omg i'm so ugly'; but now i say it all the time i look in the mirror.Why are teenagers unconfident about their looks?
I don't say it, i'm relatively content with my appearance.





BUT most teenagers say it because they are at one of the most impressionable stages of their lives; a time when they are constantly comparing themselves to other people: friends, people at school, celebrities etc.





The reason why you didn't do this when you were younger is simply because you didn't care, now you do.Why are teenagers unconfident about their looks?
HOLY COW WELCOME TO MY LIFE!! WE THINK LIKE THIS BCUZ WERE SUPPOSEDLY ';CONSTANTLY CHANGING'; SO WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THOSE CHANGES AFFECTING US...LIKE ACNE, OR MORE....PERSON STUFF BUT YEAH. sorry for the caps this is just somethin I really relate to.
its not just teenagers, most americans are insecure about looks
Well most of that has to do with how women are shown in magazines, movies, posters etc. There are a lot of tiny, skinny pretty women all over the media that the boys just drool over. That makes the insecure girls feel like they have to be like those women in order to be pretty and get a good boyfriend. But luckily there are more and more commercials and posters now a days where they are using women that aren't fitting that description. They are using women that do have some extra pounds and those women being able to go on national tv on commercials showing how proud they are of themselves can make the rest of us feel a little better. But there will always be that stereotype.
